Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 13, 2026
587Lawyers (“587Lawyers”, “we”, “us”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose and protect personal information when you visit 587lawyers.com, use our AI Legal Assistant, submit a form, or contact us by phone, text or email. We handle personal information in accordance with Alberta’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and, where it applies, the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
1. Who we are
587Lawyers is a lawyer referral and intake service that helps people in Alberta find a lawyer for their legal matter. 587Lawyers is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice. Using this website, our AI Legal Assistant or our forms does not create a solicitor-client relationship. A solicitor-client relationship exists only once a lawyer agrees to act for you. The lawyers and law firms in our network are independent and remain responsible for their own professional obligations, including those set by the Law Society of Alberta.
2. Information we collect
- Contact details: your name, email address and phone number.
- Details about your legal matter: what you tell us in a form, by phone, by email or in a conversation with our AI Legal Assistant, such as the type of matter, what happened, dates, the other people involved and your location in Alberta.
- AI Legal Assistant records: the messages you send, the assistant’s replies, a session identifier, the page you used it on, your browser language, and the start and end times of the conversation.
- Consent records: confirmation that you agreed to be contacted and when.
- Technical information: IP address, browser and device type, pages visited and referring website, collected through cookies and similar technologies (see section 9).
Please share only what is needed to describe your matter. Avoid sending highly sensitive details, such as health records, financial account numbers or government ID numbers, until you are speaking with a lawyer who has agreed to act for you.
3. How we use your information
- To understand your inquiry and identify the type of lawyer who can help.
- To connect you with a suitable lawyer or law firm in our Alberta network.
- To contact you about your inquiry by phone, text message or email.
- To operate, secure and improve our website, forms and AI Legal Assistant, including preventing spam and abuse.
- To keep records and meet our legal and regulatory obligations.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your information for unrelated marketing without your consent.
4. Our AI Legal Assistant
Our website offers an AI Legal Assistant that asks you questions about your situation so we can understand your matter and route it to the right lawyer. Please be aware of the following:
- It is an automated tool, not a lawyer. Its replies are generated by artificial intelligence, are general in nature and are not legal advice. They may be incomplete or inaccurate. Do not rely on them to make legal decisions.
- A person reviews every inquiry. The assistant does not decide whether you have a case or whether a lawyer will act for you. Your inquiry is reviewed by our team and/or a lawyer in our network.
- How your conversation is processed. Your messages are sent through our technology provider’s servers to a third-party AI model provider so the assistant can generate replies. These service providers process your information on our behalf and only for the purpose of running the assistant.
- Consent. You must agree to be contacted and acknowledge that the assistant is AI-assisted before a conversation starts. If you do not want to use the assistant, you can call us instead.
- Your conversation is not privileged. Information you share with 587Lawyers or the AI Legal Assistant may not be protected by solicitor-client privilege until a lawyer agrees to act for you.
5. Who we share your information with
- Lawyers and law firms in our network who may be able to help with your matter, so they can review your inquiry and contact you.
- Service providers who work on our behalf, such as website hosting, security, our intake technology provider, AI model providers, email and phone services, and website analytics. They may use your information only to provide services to us and must protect it.
- Others when required or permitted by law, for example to comply with a court order or legal process, or to protect the rights, safety or property of any person.
6. Service providers outside Canada
Some of our service providers, including our AI model provider, our intake technology provider and our analytics and security providers, are located outside Canada or may store or process information outside Canada, including in the United States and Colombia. They may collect, use, store or disclose your personal information for the purposes described in sections 3 to 5, including operating the AI Legal Assistant, hosting our website and forms, protecting our website from spam and attacks, and measuring website use. While your information is outside Canada, it is subject to the laws of that country and may be accessed by its courts, law enforcement and national security authorities.
For more information about our policies and practices for service providers outside Canada, or if you have questions about how they collect, use, disclose or store your personal information, please contact our Privacy Officer (section 13).
7. Your consent and choices
- By submitting a form, calling us or starting a conversation with our AI Legal Assistant, you consent to the collection, use and disclosure of your personal information as described in this policy.
- You consent to being contacted by 587Lawyers, and by participating independent lawyers or law firms in Alberta, by phone, text message or email about your inquiry. Standard message and data rates may apply. Consent to be contacted is not a condition of receiving services.
- You may withdraw your consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual restrictions, by contacting our Privacy Officer. You can unsubscribe from our emails using the link in the message, or reply STOP to our text messages. Withdrawing consent may limit our ability to help with your inquiry.
8. How long we keep your information
We keep personal information, including AI Legal Assistant conversations, only as long as reasonably needed to respond to your inquiry, connect you with a lawyer, and meet our legal and business requirements. After that, we securely destroy it or make it anonymous. Lawyers who agree to act for you will keep your information under their own record-keeping obligations.
9. Cookies, analytics and spam protection
Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to make the site work, remember your preferences, measure how visitors use the site (for example, Google Analytics), and protect it from spam and attacks. You can manage non-essential cookies through our cookie banner or your browser settings. Blocking some cookies may affect how the site works.

These include encrypted (HTTPS) connections, restricted access for authorized people only, and confidentiality obligations for our service providers. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure.
11. Privacy breaches
If a privacy breach creates a real risk of significant harm to anyone, we will notify the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta, and notify affected individuals, as required by law.
12. Accessing and correcting your information
You may ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask how it has been used and disclosed, and ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate. Please send your request in writing to our Privacy Officer. We will respond within the time required by law, generally within 45 days. In some cases the law allows or requires us to refuse access, and we will explain why.

15. Lawyers who apply to join our network
If you apply to join the 587Lawyers network, we collect the information you provide, such as your name, contact details, year of call and CV. We use it to review your application, confirm your standing with the Law Society of Alberta, and contact you about joining the network. We keep it only as long as reasonably needed for these purposes.
16. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The updated version will be posted on this page with a new “Last updated” date.
